Mike Pompeo

Robert Reich
4.18.2018

Mike Pompeo – the person Trump just sent to North Korea to represent you and me, and who Trump wants to be the next Secretary of State – is also the person who:

1. Defended the CIA after the 2014 release of a Senate report on torture, which detailed waterboarding and similar techniques, declaring "These men and women are not torturers, they are patriots,” and calling the tactics "within the law, within the constitution."

2. Opposes shutting the prison at Guantanamo Bay. (After visiting the prison in 2013, he remarked that some inmates who had declared a hunger strike looked like they had put on weight.)

3. Has been a vehement critic of the Obama administration's nuclear deal with Iran.

4. Has defended the National Security Agency's bulk data collection program.

5. While in the House, released a report accusing Hillary Clinton of intentionally misleading Americans about the Bengaisi attack to help President Barack Obama's re-election bid.

6. Said on the House floor to that some Islamic faith leaders in the United States might be tacitly encouraging terrorist attacks. "Instead of responding, silence has made these Islamic leaders across America potentially complicit in these acts and, more importantly still, in those that may well follow."

7. Was elected to the House in 2010 with the support of the Republican mega-donors Charles and David Koch.

Pompeo shouldn't be confirmed Secretary of State. And he shouldn't be representing us in North Korea.

What do you think?
