In dealing with the police...

I was in a leadership position at one time (through work) when I was invited to participate in a legal discussion (lawyers present) because an employee had been arrested and charged with a crime. The employee had been asked to meet with police about a workplace infraction, was told he was only being questioned as a witness, he spoke freely about the incident, was subsequently arrested, and his "witness" testimony was used against him.

Word to the wise...the police can lie to you, mislead you, cajole you, get you to say things you may not have meant, and use every single word you say to convict you of a crime, whether you are guilty or not.

Never, ever, ever talk to the police in which you are in any way connected to a crime scene without a lawyer present. Never. And if you don't have a lawyer, they have to give you a lawyer.
