Trump to allow additional 15,000 foreign workers—the exact kind he's hired at his businesses

Citing American businesses “at risk of suffering irreparable harm” due to a labor shortage, Donald Trump’s administration has announced that it will allow U.S. businesses to bring in an additional 15,000 foreign workers under the H-2B visa program, after already exhausting the cap of 66,000 visas earlier this year. What a way to kick off “Made in America” week:

The H-2B program allows workers from places like Mexico and Guatemala to come to the U.S., work for a few months at a government-set prevailing wage, and then return to their home countries, only to repeat the process the following year. Large U.S. industries such as hospitality, seafood processing, and landscaping and forestry have come to rely on the relatively cheap labor supplied through the H-2B pipeline.

It just so happens that Trump himself has taken full advantage of the H-2B visa program in the past, with his Florida Mar-a-Lago resort applying for more than 500 foreign workers since 2010. Meanwhile, children’s charity swindler Eric Trump has applied for dozens of workers for his winery through the H-2A visa program. Now his dad heads the very government that hands out those visas. But remember, Crooked Hillary.

Trump’s move contradicts the presidential campaign rhetoric, where he complained that undocumented immigrants are simultaneously job stealers (immigration reform is actually a job creator) and public dole moochers (they aren’t). The fact is that businesses only recruit foreign workers when they attest that "there are not enough U.S. workers who are able, willing, qualified, and available to do the temporary work.”

The farming and service industries are hard work, and immigrants get the job done. Trump’s move is a public acknowledgment that America needs immigrants, a fact he already knows all too well. Instead, the hypocrite reaps the benefits of their labor while demonizing them in order to rile up a hateful base and run for president:

For as long as he’s been in business, Trump has relied on immigrants—both legal and without documentation—to build his towers, walk catwalks for his modeling agency, manage his hotels, clean his hotel rooms, pick grapes in his vineyard, cook meals in his clubs, wait tables at his restaurants, and tend to his golf course lawns.

Altogether, “Trump properties have asked the government to grant temporary visas to some 1,200 foreign workers since 2000” with government officials saying “they had no information on whether Trump companies would apply for any of the extra H2Bs.” Knowing his family’s business history, it’s a given they will.
