Enforcing gun laws

The NRA has effectively lobbied the Senate for about 10-years now to block the appointment of anyone as Director of the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), the government bureau responsible for enforcing the nation's gun laws. Without a director, to whom most of the powers of the department are relegated, the department wanders a bit aimlessly through the enforcement process. So when the NRA says that we should just enforce the laws that we have, instead of passing any new ones, they know damn well we CAN'T effectively enforce the laws we have because they have lobbied to make the department ineffective.

It's amazing that groups like the NRA can spew half-truths under the assumption they can get away with it - but, in fact, they do get away with it.
