Bush Loyalty

Bush/Cheney events routinely require the public to sign loyalty oaths, declaring their public support for the president, and giving their names and license numbers. According to The Boston Globe, Nick Lucy, a 64-year-old past commander of the American Legion who plays taps at veterans' funerals, was denied access at one event in Iowa because he is not a registered Republican.

And according to Slate.com, at one Florida event, attendees were even asked to recite a pledge: "I care about freedom and liberty, I care about my family. I care about my country. Because I care, I promise to work hard to reelect George W. Bush as president of the United States."
