Photo feature is very slow today. Sorry for the lack of images.

It blows my mind to think of the millions of middle-class Americans who vote against their own best interests and support Republicans. I don't get it. It is so clear that Republicans derive most of their support from - then pass legislation favoring - the wealthy and those who most benefit from policies supporting big business. I understand that Democrats support a lot of social issues that may perturb the sensibilities of the ultra-religious, but such policies are far less harmful to the average citizen than what the Republicans do.

There's a great little summary of what the Republicans have done as holders of the Presidency and both houses of Congress. Read the whole article at OpEdNews.com

For over a decade, Republicans have controlled both houses of Congress and have held the Whitehouse since George W. Bush was appointed President in 2000. Since then, Congress has abandoned most of its responsibilities and become little more than a rubber stamp for the Bush Administration's war on the middle class. This week we will look at their record on domestic issues:

They cut taxes; but whose taxes did they cut?

"The average tax cut for the 20 percent of households in the middle of the income spectrum would be just $20. ...For those with incomes above $1 million, the average tax cut would be $42,000." --Center of Budget and Policy Priorities, 5/11/06

At the same time they were cutting taxes, the Republican Party, which claims to be the party of fiscal responsibility, became the Party of Spending Like a Drunken Sailor (Note: Unlike Congress, drunken sailors spend their own money). The U.S. has to borrow about $2 billion each day--just to keep the government running.

• "Median income for people under 65 is declining, the poverty rate, especially for children, is rising, and 46.6 million Americans, nearly 16 percent of the population, have no health insurance." --Peabody Award winner Bill Gallagher, Niagara Falls Reporter, 9/5/06
